Safety Specialist:
Recognizes, evaluates, and controls safety and health hazards in the facility and works with internal departments to minimize occupational health and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable regulations. This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field and two years of safety experience in a health care environment. Certification as a First Responder may also be required.
Recognizes, evaluates, and controls safety and health hazards in the facility and works with internal departments to minimize occupational health and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable regulations. Conducts comprehensive safety and hygiene audits. Conducts accident investigations and works with departments to correct safety hazards and develop preventative procedures. Performs job hazard assessments and recommends measures to control exposures, including substitution of less hazardous materials, personal protective equipment (PPE), work practice changes, and engineering controls. Prepares and conducts training classes. Writes reports documenting observations, sampling results, and recommendations. Performs and documents radiation measurements related to medical treatment or diagnostic procedures involving radioisotopes. Determines conditions for patient isolation and release following criteria for specific procedures. Interacts with and advises medical personnel on radiation safety precautions involving patients undergoing certain treatments with radiopharmaceuticals. This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field and two years of safety experience in a health care environment.
