Master Plumber:
Provides analytic/diagnostic plumbing services and uses high-level technical skills to repair, maintain, and install any type or size of plumbing systems. Trains and manages Apprentice and Journeyman Plumbers involved plumbing projects. Possesses advanced knowledge and understanding of Federal plumbing codes and plumbing codes and regulations of the State in which the individual is working. Possesses thorough knowledge of plumbing terminology, systems, reading/designing plumbing schemas/blueprints, and plumbing layouts. Provides basic and advanced installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems according to specifications and plumbing codes, and manages major plumbing projects, such as gas fitting, water reticulation and irrigation systems, fire protection services, heating and cooling, mechanical services/air conditioning systems, sanitary disposal, drainage, metal roofing, wall cladding, and other plumbing services.

Reviews work orders and prepares material list for completion of jobs. Studies building plans and working drawings to determine workers required and sequence of installations. Inspects structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structures resulting from installation of pipes. Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls, floors, and ground. Cuts openings in walls and floors or digs trenches to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Installs, repairs, or replaces flush meters, water heaters, drinking fountains, drains and drain lines, tubs, faucets, valves, pumps, toilets, urinals, lawn and irrigation sprinklers, etc. Cuts and threads pipe and bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and plastic solvent, and caulks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. Inspects/certifies back flow preventers on domestic/fire water lines. Operates trade-related equipment, such as backhoes, sewer augers, power tools, jack hammers, trucks/jeeps, pipe threaders, arc welders, acetylene/cutting torches, buried pipe locator equipment, and gauges to test back flow preventer valves. May pull city plumbing permits as needed. May specialize in maintenance and repair of heating, water, and drainage systems in industrial or commercial establishments.
