X-Ray Technician: Performs diagnostic imaging examinations, applying roentgen rays and radioactive substances to patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Gives drugs or chemical mixtures orally or as enemas to render organs opaque. Positions patient under x-ray machine, attaches immobilization devices, and affixes lead plates to protect unaffected areas.
Adjusts switches regulating length and intensity of exposure. Assists in treating diseased or affected areas of body, under supervision of Physician, by exposing area to specified concentrations of x-rays for prescribed periods of time. Prepares reports and maintains records of services rendered. Makes minor adjustments to equipment. May assist in therapy requiring application of radium or radioactive isotopes.
