Assists in the planning of administrative and technical policies of the Health Information Management department and supervises employees who analyze, compile, code, index, and store permanent medical records of patients. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in health information management and certification as a Registered Records Administrator (RRA).
Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy, and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes. Provides medical records training and monitors employee work to ensure proper maintenance and release of medical records. Handles complex inquiries that cannot be handled by medical records employees. Organizes and distributes the department workload. May order supplies and maintain supply inventory.
