Typically requires a bachelor's degree with seven years of related health plan experience. Manages mental health and substance abuse programs to ensure that appropriate professional and cost effective care is provided to all patients. Manages and coordinates placement and periodic health reviews and confidential medical record maintenance. Monitors the management of mental health and substance abuse consultations including assessment, treatment, and referral to appropriate resources as required. Ensures that the plan has an adequate number of participating providers in the network to meet business objectives. Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems, and assists them in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes. Encourages clients to express their feelings, discusses what is happening in their lives, and helps them develop insight into themselves and their relationships. Helps individuals deal with thoughts of suicide; addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health. Provides and teaches self-advocacy and independence for families. Assists clients and families to engage in appropriate problem solving. Assists and advocates for clients in working with other agencies and professionals to ensure continuity of care.
