Sells building materials, equipment, and supplies, such as heating or air-conditioning equipment, insulation, glass, floor tiles, bricks, lumber, plumbing fixtures, and roofing, to new or existing wholesale customers, such as builders, developers, and building materials retail stores, in assigned area or territory. Follows blueprints and applies knowledge of building construction. Generates prospect list and new accounts. Calls on and interacts directly with new and existing wholesale customers to explain features and merits of building materials offered, utilizing persuasive sales techniques. Demonstrates, if applicable, and describes products, and emphasizes the best applications and saleable features. Answers all questions concerning products, with appropriate referrals where required. Calculates and quotes prices. Analyzes and determines customers’ needs and recommends appropriate products to meet those needs. Prepares forms or agreements, closes transactions, and secures orders. Establishes professional customer relationships with appropriate customer personnel. Submits time and expense reports to management. Investigates product warranty claims to ensure resolution within organization policies.
