Provides direct clinical services for psychiatric patients according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the supervising physician. Functions independently to perform individual assessments, diagnostic functions, specialized risk assessments, and make critical decisions regarding a wide variety of health situations, including high risk and crisis situations. Obtains patient health histories and completes examinations. Orders, performs and interprets lab and diagnostic imaging studies. Diagnoses and treats acute health problems. Provides health maintenance, screenings and referrals. Provides counseling to promote healthy lifestyles and arranges consultations and referrals. Collaborates with physicians and other health care professionals as needed. Documents examination results, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings and ensures accuracy of notes on patient medical records.
