Creates and manages the design of the application for websites, using a creative vision and strong understanding of web navigation and information architecture. Develops, tests, edits, maintains, and documents look and flow of websites. Ensures that the data coming from the back-end development team (creation and management of application logic) gets displayed on the browser, making sure it conforms with what the customer and back-end development team intended, and that the user can navigate through it, accessing the data. Acquires data from back-end sources, compiles markup languages and scripting languages, and links different documents. Applies knowledge of programming techniques and computer Internet systems. Utilizes skills including fluency in development tools, such as HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, HTTP, networking (latency, routing, distributed storage and processing, security); basic understanding of specific templating languages, such as XML/XSLT/WSDL, REST, and SOAP; some server side languages; illustrations/cartoons; basic flash animation and design; and understanding of design concepts. Develops video and audio enhancements, if desired by client. Determines if project requires creating a series of new programs or modifying existing programs that access data stored in databases. Observes display screen to detect syntax or logic errors during program test, or uses diagnostic software to detect errors.
