Prepares labels and dispenses medications for patients in accordance with physicians' prescriptions and in compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations pertaining to the dispensing of drugs and narcotics and the maintenance of required records. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes, such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Maintains appropriate records of dispensing and oversees and maintains the systems that charge or credit for medications and medication treatments. Supervises pharmacy workers who assist in mixing, packaging, labeling and dispensing pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Provides drug information and educates caregivers and patients regarding medications and their proper use and monitoring. Monitors all aspects of the medication process, collects data and presents reports and recommendations regarding issues with medication systems. Ensures that proper documentation is completed for all medications, with particular attention on controlled substances. Maintains all equipment and systems used in the preparation, oversight and dispensing of medications. Ensures that appropriate medications are available, ordered, prepared, stored and maintained. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and certification or completion of an accredited clinical residency program. A current license is also required.
